Here's a thought re: Yam's writing about 'electing supervisors who vote for data centers'. Does that also include the ONE BLUE PARTY ONLY 'elected' to Fredericksburg City Council? Then, Don't pick up a blue party-endorsed ballot at the precinct and elect them.
Mayor Kerry Devine wouldn't even release the name of the developer for the 8-12 DATA CENTERS going out near the Fred Nats ballpark, said it was 'proprietary'. It's not. and neither is the amount of water that these guzzlers are pulling from the Rappahannock River. WATER is a public commodity. Residents/Ratepayers have the right to know the gallons per day. Spotsy and Stafford have released the info. Stafford did it an hour before the court case started.
These DATA CENTERS are going in the city near the apts housing children who are 'historically marginalized' and their families on 3 sides. Two Fridays ago, the fed US Dept of Energy issued an order to PJM power grid to give the OK to run their generators 24/7 in this heat wave. They were only supposed to run for a monthly status check and in 'emergency'. DIESEL. 24/7.
Harvard Business Review (11-5-25): DATA CENTERS emit 'silent killers': for lung cancer, cardiovascular, and premature death.
Turns out the city's 8-12 DATA CENTERS developer is STACK. Activist residents found this out from UMW students researching the FOIAs/Freedom of Info Act they had to file with the city.
UMW students released the news to us at the 2-22-25 UMW Youth Climate Action Summit. STACK is the developer. That gave us the time to contact Prince William Bill Wright, who told us to watch out if their reps are on any city boards.
and sure enough, Council appointed Kevin Hughes, who works for STACK, to the FXBG EDA/Economic Development Authority before the 2-25-25 Council vote for STACK's 8-12 DATA CENTERS. He didn't recuse himself when EDA voted to send $200,000 of our money to Dominion to fund its own study of transmission lines. Not one of them objected or said 'tell Dominion to fund its own study'.
This is what you need to know: 'the worm has turned on DATA CENTERS'. Loudoun and Prince William got in on time to get some of that Golden Egg revenue. But the rest of us are too late. There's no power left. We're on a 6 yr wait list. The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg died in the end. G-R-E-E-D.
The technology is fast approaching that a DATA CENTER will be the size of a cell phone (industry expert, Flexnode, 2025). They're not going to need all this LAND they're getting REZONED. These dudes in this billion-dollar industry aren't coming in to grab 'Tara' off your LAND. It's getting OUR LAND REZONED. They are impacting the urban landscape, reshaping what our community, Virginia and the Eastern Seaboard will look like. That's why they're rushing their applications.
Did you know that a Prince William DATA CENTER stuck a 'secret tenant' bank inside a DATA CENTER so they wouldn't have to pay the promised BPOL taxes. Spotsy Co Board of Supervisors/BOS Jacob Lane (Livingston) knows this. He questioned the regional attorney for DATA CENTERS, Charlie Payne, at a recent BOS mic to ensure Spotsy won't be done dirty as done in Prince William. Charlie went all over the place in not answering Supervisor Lane to 'Put it in writing'.
The Commonwealth has caught on how they can 'manipulate' some DATA CENTER revenue. Virginia says you're now considered 'wealthy' if you're getting that revenue. Prince William Bd of Supervisors discussed it when looking at their school budget (Potomac Local News, 4-2-26). The possibility that their LCI/Local Composite Index for the state's allocation to the locality to fund its local public schools will be reduced $40 million PER YEAR.
Savvy Virginia Beach knows that the tech is almost there. They are writing policy and procedure to BAN DATA CENTERS. Front Royal, VA is putting all DATA CENTER applicants on a 90-day pause to write P & P to BAN DATA CENTERS. Prince George's MD has a 2-yr 'MORATORIUM' on DATA CENTERS. Prince William Co Board of Supervisors Deshundra Jefferson asked their board to direct staff to write Policy & Procedure to 'DECOMMISSION' DATA CENTERS. (Potomac Local News, 7-1-26).
