I am hoping the Flock cameras will be updated to include sound to provide police the ability/opportunity to enforce the noise ordinance. Would love to see this and the fines covering the cost.
I've often complained about this assault on our collective peaceful existence, especially downtown on an otherwise pleasant evening. The city should be enforcing the noise ordinance. A few officers on foot with noise meters, radioing ahead for traffic stops would be a great tactic, but of course it would require the police to get out of their cars.
I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this article, and agree with it! We live in an active adult community, which is lovely and peaceful, except for some weekend evenings when we can hear the roar of motorcycles and really loud cars roaring up and down a few blocks away. Thank you! I love the sounds of nature.
Thanks for reading! I've never understood why the city doesn't take noise ordinance violations seriously. Even now that our kids are grown, I can say that the evening racket still stops my wife and I from going downtown -- and I'm sure we're not alone. We would spend more money downtown than most of the noisemakers, I'm certain. Perhaps the city should promote quiet evenings. As a musician in a band that often plays outdoors, our music is ALWAYS disrupted by loud motorbikes and cars/trucks, even when we're playing indoors. And no one can chat with a friend in downtown sidewalk cafes or restaurants. I gave up trying that years ago. It's not like the violators are good citizens operating within their rights. But I've never gotten anyone official to take things seriously. It's their revenue they're losing (we live in Stafford).
