Fredericksburg Food Bank Open House
Last night the New Dominion Podcast welcomed Dan Maher — CEO of the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank — to the show. Maher has been with us before, and he spurred a fascinating discussion about our community’s capacity and needs in the realm of food insecurity. (The podcast will air next week. If you’ve missed other episodes, you can always listen at Spotify.)
While you’re waiting for that episode to drop, come learn more about the Food Bank — and have a lot of fun doing it — this Saturday at the Food Bank’s annual open house. We encourage all our readers to come out and enjoy the music, games, and forklift rodeo. You’ll also get to see first-hand the space where so much is being done to alleviate hunger.
The fun starts at 10 a.m. at 480 Central Road in Fredericksburg.
Local News Forum
Looking ahead, on October 3 the Advance will be taking part on a panel focused on local news and why it matters.
The event, put together by the University of Mary Washington and moderated by Dr. Stephen Farnsworth, will give audience members a chance to hear from those on the frontlines of local media.
It will be held at the Cedric Rucker University Center in room 315 on October 3 beginning at 6 p.m.

Support Award-winning, Locally Focused Journalism
The FXBG Advance cuts through the talking points to deliver both incisive and informative news about the issues, people, and organizations that daily affect your life. And we do it in a multi-partisan format that has no equal in this region. Over the past month, our reporting was:
First to report on a Spotsylvania School teacher arrested for bringing drugs onto campus.
First to report on new facility fees leveled by MWHC on patient bills.
First to detail controversial traffic numbers submitted by Stafford staff on the Buc-ee’s project
Provided extensive coverage of the cellphone bans that are sweeping local school districts.
And so much more, like Clay Jones, Drew Gallagher, Hank Silverberg, and more.
For just $8 a month, you can help support top-flight journalism that puts people over policies.
