Turnout in today’s primary has been light, area registrars say.
In Fredericksburg City, as of noon, just over 500 people had voted, registrar Jessica Atkinson said.
Of these, just over 300 voted in the Democratic primary, and just over 200 in the Republican.
About 600 people voted early this primary, with about twice as many voting in the Democratic primary than the Republican, Atkinson said.
Spotsylvania registrar Kelly Acors did not have voting totals from all precincts but said “it’s just been very slow.”
“I know turnout is way lower than the March Primary at this time,” she said.
The Advance visited five precincts in Spotsylvania on Tuesday morning. As of 11 a.m., the highest turnout was 134 voters and the lowest 64.
One precinct reported voters selecting Republican ballots over Democratic ballots by 2-to-1.
The Advance has visited one precinct in Stafford. Drew Middle School reported less than 90 voters at 10:40. Turnout was picking up slowly, however.
About 2,400 people voted early in-person in Stafford County, registrar Anna Hash said. Of these, about 1,200 voted in the Democratic primary and 1,215 voted in the Republican primary.
More people voted early by absentee ballot in the Democratic primary than in the Republican, Hash said. Of 2,615 total absentee ballots received, 1,749 were for the Democratic party and 866 for the Republican.
This story has been updated to include early voting totals for Stafford County.

I voted early by mail.
Though totally anecdotal…
