People enjoy no shortage of facts and information; they lack the time to read deeply and analyze what this information means to them and their communities. Enter the FXBG Advance.

We are a new publication that takes the topics of greatest importance to our region, reviews the information, and provides thoughtful analysis that people can use to advance the public discussion.

Our goal isn’t to add still more fuel to the anger in the public square, but to increase understanding so that those in the midst of the discussion can better hear one another.

In that way, we put readers first.

We are guided by four principles:

1.       Government is not the enemy – There are serious debates to be had about the size and reach and power of government, but viewing government as the enemy does nothing to advance those debates. Understanding government’s evolving role, and the strengths and dangers that come with that, drive our reporting.

2.       Problem-solving, not left and right – The acerbic nature of public discourse stems from the divisive language of campaigns that have become a nonstop reality in today’s world. This obsession with elections continuously forces us to frame problems in terms of ideology. We believe it’s most important to frame issues in terms of problem-solving.

3.       Expertise matters – “That’s your opinion” is an oft-voiced response to what we disagree with. But opinions, like ideas, range the spectrum from weak and ill-informed, to complex and well thought-out. We believe in respecting the expertise of those who have put in the time and work to truly master a field, while understanding the importance of constantly challenging these people on their presuppositions and limitations.

4.       Confidence in our institutions – In addition to the processes which enable our local, state, and federal government to function is a recognition that our institutions work better when they represent the width, breadth, diversity and depth of every aspect of our community.  On education, academia, the press, entertainment, bureaucracy, faith and public safety - we maintain a shared optimism: There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be fixed with what is right about America.
