How closely did the Fredericksburg of 1824 resemble the city we know today? What buildings remain from that time, and what did the 4,000-some residents of the town wear, eat, or do for fun?
Historians Scott Walker and Barbara Anderson, both affiliated with the Historic Fredericksburg Foundation, will answer these questions at a free lecture at 7 p.m. this evening.
Titled “Fredericksburg in 1824: The City When Lafayette Visited,” the talk will help listeners place themselves in historical context as they prepare to celebrate the bicentennial of Lafayette’s visit in November of this year.
The lecture is the seventh in a series of events commemorating 200 years since Lafayette’s 1824 tour of the United States. It will be held at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library’s Fredericksburg branch at 1201 Caroline Street.
