Chair Deuntay Diggs says the county is monitoring a recent Post story that said a large-scale immigration detention center may be coming to Stafford County.
Terrific reporting on this. The tension between federal preemption and local zoning authority is gona be fascinating to watch unfold here. I've seen similiar situations where private lessees of federal faciliteis got caught in a gray area where nobody at the county level quite knew what leverage they had. The conditional use permit angle mentioned by Diggs could be the crux, but even that might get contested if ICE frames this as essential national security infrastructure.
Deuntay Diggs: Playing helpless right after the news breaks isn’t a good look. The Board of Supervisors can at least make it very clear that Stafford County does not want such a detention center. I’m sure you could put up roadblocks. Imagine if it were another potential methadone clinic? The Board of Supervisors would be calling for an emergency meeting. Pathetic.
You've finally found a way to boost the county's tourism.
Not only will the Bucc-ee's benefit from the 10's of thousands coming to visit their loved ones being warehoused in unsanitary concentration camps where the cruelty, lack of oversight, and fear IS the policy, we'll be able to count on people coming for decades and centuries to come to visit in remembrance!

You know, sorta like Auschwitz....
Well done. And just in time for Christmas too.
Just like Jesus would do.
I know He'd be proud.
