Amazing how something can be so true yet so false.

Yes what Trump is doing is reprehensible. And yes, it makes it so another can do worse, if that were possible. But that's not really the problem, is it?

Libertarians have long had a meme that they play as they look at contempt on the American system where they enlighten us and justify their apathy and disdain by explaining that both the left and the right wing are all part of the same bird.

The implication being that what has been happening to this country for the last 40 years under Republicanism, and especially the last decade as that party has transformed into a personality cult beholden to its undergirding of funding and fanaticism from both oligarchs and religious zealots really doesn't matter because they all do it.

It is echoed by those who oppose the policies of this totalitarian cult, yet refuse to recognize it for what it is - a major portion of the country, ironically the ones who hold themselves out as the most patriotic and loyal of the country, destroying that very means of government from within.

It's not only a WSJ that focuses only on the money, a WaPo brought to heel to do the same in the hopes that its owner won't be called to account for his Amazonian tactics, data center power grabs, or hopes to chisel into the space market pie.

But also local, "independent" editors certain that as long as they keep their head down at the local level, assuring us that the local Republicans are really good people and therefore should not be held accountable for what their party does elsewhere, or even their columnists, who obviously are as disgusted with these horrible policies as so many of the rest of us, yet merely a week or two ago were assuring us that the laws passed by this cult of obedience were no big deal and life goes on.

It's not working. The left wing and the right wing are no longer part of the same bird. The right wing is actively trying to destroy the bird and replace it with something wrought in its own image.

If science doesn't agree with them, they throw out the science - whether it be climate data, weather, economic, electoral. Like wise for crime, civil liberties, or any of the other myriad underpinnings of a successful society.

And it was successful, despite the acceptance of otherwise by so many. America performed better under Biden than just about every other country in the world coming out of the pandemic. Now we're not. And a new generation is about to see stagflation on steroids. Coupled with a tax rate that changes daily dependent upon the whims of a megalomaniac with sensitivity issues but always is 10% or more, whereas 6 months ago it averaged 2.5%.

Who voted for that? Especially when that tax is imposed more harshly upon the poor as billionaires and the UMC see their costs cushioned?

But the fact remains that none of this happens without the obedience of LOCAL Republicans. They are as culpable as the ones doing it in their name. Though both they, and their enablers would have it so, you shouldn't be able to have it both ways.

When your neighbors are afraid to speak their minds because your party will attack them for telling the truth, you're the problem. When their healthcare is taken, their children locked up without rights, they are unjustly taxed, cannot learn at a school whose curriculum offends you, or access a vaccine that may save their lives because of your party - then you're the problem.

Our media needs to hold them to account for these outrages, our voters and citizens need to hold them to account - at every level of government.

If someone hires a killer to kill you, the law says they should be held accountable for their actions. Why are we not doing the same when they are killing our government?

It's not merely one miserable, amorally ignorant huckster in Washington doing this. It is the people who both chose to put him and all of his followers there, and continue to obey him without question.

That's who did the hiring. At the very least, demand to know why.

This is what fanatical propaganda looks like, from a true believer. Ignoring the skyrocketing inflation of Biden, resulting in the surge of costs for healthcare, food, fuel, insurance, clothing, housing, transportation, and infrastructure. Then we have the illegal immigration problems directly caused by Biden & the Democrats. The violent crime, our taxes being used to pay for the healthcare, food, housing, and education of illegal aliens who invaded our country at the behest of Biden and Spanberger. Our propagandist blames it the "other side". Shall we look at the attempt to indoctrinate students from K-12 to the universities? The DEI and CRT policies that tried to convince our children that if you are one color you are a victim and another color, an oppressor, is as egregious as teaching children that Marixm is a noble political ideology. Of course, it is obfuscated by calling it different names: socialism, communism, progressivism, and now the conflation of democracy with those "ism's". "Save our democracy." Indeed, but we are a republic.

Yes, that's some diatribe and done in the true believer voice, just the same as Donnie Johnston's screed of trying the age-old political scam of "Look! Shiny!"

Ah yes. Ye olde anonymous Klan reply.

Inflation's higher now than it was under Biden, and again I'm not saying there were no rising costs - but that compared to other OECD countries, we were doing better. Read better, understand better. We'd all be better off.

But no more. And that's BEFORE these arbitrary Republican taxes finally kick in, once the cult god had wrung all of the drama out of threatening them and finally moved on to taxing Americans based on whatever strikes his fancy on a given day.

Brazil decides to hold their totalitarian tyrant accountable? We all pay 50% more for coffee in response.

And funny about that "illegal immigration" problem - it's been Republicans squawking the loudest when they started raiding workplaces. They've suddenly discovered what we've known and said all along. America doesn't work without them. Hasn't for a long, long time. But it's been the klan's hatred, ignorance, and love of cheap labor that's stymied every attempt to bring them into the light where they would have rights.

Funny that when they want to gin up fear, they show Texas and Arizona, yet when they want to torture people - they go to Los Angeles and not Dallas. Why's that, you wonder? Shouldn't it be the ones who were screaming the loudest who deserve the pleasure of not having someone to pick their fruit, build their homes, or clean up everything from their yards to their senile Grannys behind that they wouldn't want to clean up themselves?

And if by fanatic you mean someone who actually believes in the core concepts upon which this democratic republic was founded, I thank you for the compliment.

I do believe in things like rule of law, civil liberties, non-violence. When Thomas Paine writes in Common Sense:

"For as in absolute governments the King is law, so in free countries the law ought to be king; and there ought to be no other."

I hold that to be as true today as it was then. As reprehensible as the Republican's cultgod is, please, please understand that even if he had the compassion of a Pope Francis or Leo - who shared my disgust with him, the intelligence and wisdom of a Dr Fauci, or the calm leadership of President Obama - I still would recoil at the thought of such a king or tyrant. Not because they could not lead wisely, but because they could be so easily replaced by someone as fallible as the current god with clay feet that the Republican cult follows without question.

The man who suffered in a POW camp's patriotism is questionable, but the draft dodger who had bad feet which somehow don't interfere with his golf game at 80 is a hero? YOu can sell it, but I still ain't buying it.

The lady who has dealt with statistics all of her life is lying, because the guy with 30+ felonies and 30000 public lies in a 4 year period when they still bothered to count says so without proof? Riiiiiiight......

On and on.

All I'm saying is that we need to quit pretending one miserable ignorant man is the cause of our troubles. And hold all Republicans to account for their actions to destroy the very things which have made our democratic republic great. We wait too long, there may not be much to save....

Ignoring the anonymous fear mongers wouldn't be a bad way to begin. Moving on.

It must hurt being a socialist propaganda fanatic. No, you misconstrue and the founding documents of our country and have obviously never read the 1787 Constitutional Debates. Your ignorance is blatant.

Defending "The lady who has dealt with statistics all of her life " and ignoring the economists who are ripping her stats to pieces and accusing her of falsifying the numbers is typical of you.

Crawl back in your leftist hole.

Hmmm- you say I misconstrue that we are (and should remain) a land ruled by law rather than kings or petty tyrants yet cannot say how. How Republican. That counts in Klanland as an irrefutable fact, I suppose. Glad I don't yet live there, though Lord knows you're trying.

And I have no idea what someone else now says about yet this latest expert whom you automatically dismiss despite a lifetime of service. Though I cannot but notice how consistent this row gets hoed every time someone says something the klan doesn't approve of.

Kelly, Mattis, McCain, this lady, everybody else is always lying, yet somehow - the known polyconvicted felon, who only avoided much worse charges due to your cult's blind obedience and the rest of us's willingness to submit to the law, even when we are certain (and have since been proven) that your choice has proven to be so mind-bogglingly disastrous for our country, citizens, and the species in general - and somehow we're all supposed to take him at his word without question?

Pffttt...bless your heart.

Again, that miserable dotard is not the problem. Never was, as miserable as he was and is. It's those who insist not only on themselves following him, but that the rest of us must as well.

Whether it be the local Republicans enabling him, or anyone else that allows them to do so without challenge. That's where the problem is.

No kings. No klan. We've tried both and we are the poorer for it. And I'm not going anywhere until the Good Lord sees fit to take me. And that's His call, not yours, not mine. Never was, never will be.

Tata....
