Laura Leonard, a 2nd-grade teacher at Potomac Elementary School, has been named King George County Schools’ 2025 Teacher of the Year, the division announced in a press release Tuesday.
“We are so proud to honor Laura Leonard as our Teacher of the Year,” said Jesse Boyd, division superintendent, in the press release. “Her dedication to her students, her leadership in character education, and her role as a mentor for other teachers exemplify the qualities we value in our educators. She is truly deserving of this recognition.”
Leonard has worked in the county for more than a decade. She has contributed to the school in multiple ways outside of her work in the classroom—serving as a mentor to new teachers, and as a Character Education Ambassador and Spirit Squad Leader.
“Her exceptional leadership and passion for fostering an environment where all students can thrive has earned her the admiration of colleagues, students, and parents alike,” the division wrote in the press release.
The county-level recognition means Leonard is among candidates for recognition as regional and statewide Teacher of the Year.
