Debates don’t move the needle. If they did, Kamala Harris would be president.

There is another factor that we should keep in mind and that is the reality that debating a person whose version of reality is skewed by conspiracy theories and a platform that is founded on lies is tough. Harkening back to the disastrous performance of Joe Biden (thanks to age, ill health, and so on), part of the issue was that his opponent was not debating, he was fire hosing half truths, distortions and outright lies. If WES follows that playbook, AS will have her work cut out for her tonight. I hope her team has prepped her for this possibility.

Ooookayyyy. What people?

If you're talking about the folks who have enough time and disposable income to subscribe here, not sure they are the same ones on the bottom end of the haves and have-not dividing line.

This is a rare opportunity to compare the two candidates side by side. True.

But if you, as a voter, take that one moment on TV, as compared to a lifetime of work and public service to make your decision, maybe you're the problem, eh?

Is the content of their character shown by that canned, 5 minute response - or from the years of productivity making compromises, making policy, making laws? Both have done public service, but there is a clear distinction in that public service. In their preparation, knowledge, studies.

If you're looking for someone to entertain you, by all means - look at their ratings. How loud they are. How combative. Entertaining.

Though realize that some of us think there's a difference between reality TV and reality. And when you can't tell the difference, we all suffer.

So spare me the hyperbole.

And yes, I'd say under normal circumstances, Mr Jones's statements and actions are not only horrifying, but disqualifying for being an Attorney General of Virginia.

I have many questions regarding that episode, many which aren't even being asked, much less answered. (Looking at you, old venerable 4th Estate).

For Democrats, particularly those who screen candidates - none of this was known beforehand? I can't believe a Democratic Delegate or former Delegate got convicted of Reckless Driving and nobody in that VA courthouse didn't know who he was. UVA, William and Mary grad, and none of those folks knew him? C'mon, man.

And more troubling, the homicidal ideation against a fellow Delegate. The only time he made such remarks in his life was in a tweet to a political opponent/colleague? Hard to believe that was an isolated thought.

But then we get to the other questions. That I've yet to hear asked.

For the Republicans.

3 years ago, the man expresses horrific homicidal ideation regarding another person whom he has access to. As well as fantasizes about the deaths of his enemy's children.

Why are we only hearing about this now?

Was a police report made at the time? Where, when, by who?

If not, why not? Was Speaker Gilbert warned that there was a threat against his life? If not, why not?

If so, why was this potentially felonious act not thoroughly and openly reported, investigated, and resolved at the time?

Because based upon the timing that it was finally exposed, it sure likes like someone(s) made the choice to hide this horrendous threat for political purposes. Who? Why? When?

Breathing life into losing Republican bids outweigh the lives of their own party members and their children?

Damn. Someone explain that one. Not after the election, but now.

Because that someone knows. And they made this report only after seeing that early voting had started, and polls that showed Miyares losing.

For Jones, as I said, if this had come out before voting started - I would join in saying he should resign now. But since those exposing this information obviously did so in bad faith, to thwart the will of Virginia's voters; I hate to see them rewarded.

So if Jones has any integrity or honor left, I would recommend that he stay in the race until the end, with the understanding that he will resign on Day 1, which would allow for his replacement by under whatever process the VA Constitution allows. And then that he withdraw from public life until if/when enough time and effort has passed for him to retrieve his honor, if he can.

That would be the Virginia way. Though I ain't counting on any of it.

I guess that's why they say if wishes were fishes, we'd all cast nets.

But there's still some questions I'd like to see answered, or at least asked and reported in a timely manner - rather than pat articles with football analogies that would make the old Gipper wince.

Put Adele on it, I'm betting she could get it done.....if you'll let her.

We'd all be better off.
