Congressman Eugene Vindman earlier this month announced a new challenge designed to encourage young readers to explore new stories and ideas.
“Seven Books for VA-07” challenges elementary school students district-wide to read seven books on the selected theme between now and December 19.
The inaugural theme is “Caring for the Community” and it encourages students to read books “that highlight the importance of supporting, uplifting, and protecting” families, friends, neighbors, and the environment, according to the website.
Students who complete the challenge will receive a Letter of Congressional Recognition.
“As a dad, I understand the importance of teaching our kids to read instead of scroll. Some of my favorite memories are reading with my kids and seeing their curiosity grow with every page,” Vindman said in a press release about the new initiative.
“This challenge is about inspiring that same excitement while helping students discover stories that connect them to their neighbors and communities. I am hopeful that this challenge will promote literacy, inspire curiosity, and empower the next generation of readers."
