Wow, Steve. Excellent article.

Outstanding expose of yet another elected official lacking the temperament to govern.

And also an expose of how the data center companies, (and their attorneys), who preach misinformation, or "disinfo" on their assessment of the public's opinion on their destructive, polluting, invasive industry, are actually the ones pushing the disinformation themselves. Whether overtly (the billboard on Rt. 1 in Stafford) or covertly, by hiding the information.

They do it intentionally. It's part of their playbook to get their projects approved. Let us never lose sight of that.

When Mr. Mullins gets back from church today and responds to the questions about his homophobia and not loving all of God’s children, could you please ask if the S in GFYS is really necessary?

Excellent article. Thank you.

Currently it is the data centers, but unbridled growth in housing has been and continues to be a problem. Spotsylvania BOD must account for the needs concerning water, electricity and ROADS!

Over here appreciating your work.

So frustrating.

Really important piece. Everyone needs to read this.

Do your own homework about what data centers do for our society, and about what is inside them.

No thanks. Not my job to educate you. The info is out there. Try using A. I. for this!

Your smart phone, laptop, and yes data centers, are at their heart, computers.

Just found out that rightly so, Spotsy Co residents/activists are major ticked at Spotsy Co Bd of Supervisors DREW MULLINS because of this stellar expose by Steve Watkins 'FXBG Advance' on the local players in the DATA CENTER industry. Geez, you gotta watch that Drew Mullins. Spotsy residents need to look at the Spotsy Co. DATA CENTER application names of the developer and the attorney who signed the application. Then match it up to his name on VPAP/Virginia Public Access Project and see if those names match for donations.

That's how we found out that 3 of them on the present City Council took donations from the regional attorney for DATA CENTERS: Councilor Joy Crump (Ward 2), Susanna Finn (Ward 3) Matt Rowe (Ward 1). Also watch who 'ole Drew is appointing to Planning Commission and EDA. and see if they're tied in with the DATA CENTER industry.

Just figured it out that the EDA/Economic Development Authority is going to have a major say-so in working on the LOCAL docs to address DATA CENTERS. (If you have time, see my comments on this under Del Joshua Cole's FB post on the Gov's 'DATA CENTER Framework').

The 2023 FXBG Council voted to put a STACK DATA CENTER developer on the EDA. He voted to send $200,000 to Dominion to fund a DATA CENTER transmission line 'feasibility' study and did not recuse himself for 'conflict of interest'. Current Council voted to put Curry Roberts, Fredericksburg Regional Alliance on EDA. He's the one who directed Councilor Gerlach to get Councilor JANNAN HOLMES to 'socialize' the Fredericksburg City PS PTAs and teachers' assn ONLY to the positives of DATA CENTERS. (FOIA email, 10-1-24).

They all showed up out of nowhere at the 2-25-25 DATA CENTER vote that ran past midnight, wearing 2-inch buttons in James Monroe HS colors of orange/black; 'I SUPPORT DATA CENTERS' to bray this at the public comment mic. Just so Council, especially Councilor HOLMES could say that they heard both sides.

Those 'sheeple' didn't know a thing about DATA CENTERS and that DATA CENTERS were going in near Fred Nats ballpark near the apts for children who are 'historically marginalized' and their families with DATA CENTERS surrounding them on Three sides to emit their fine particulate matter, the poisons for lung cancer, cardiovascular issues, and premature death (Harvard Business Review, 11-5-25).

NAACP members did come up to us after the vote to say they had no idea about the 'other side' of DATA CENTERS. We were saying this at the mic. but it was a DONE DEAL, ALL-IN, RAH-RAH DATA CENTERS vote backed up by behind-the-scenes manipulation of the people by Councilor HOLMES. Vice Mayor FRYE (Ward 4) was also up to no good by breaking the people's TRUST and NOT being TRANSPARENT in what he and Councilor HOLMES were doing behind the scenes, working with the DATA CENTER industry shills.

What about NDAs. Who has signed them. Elected officials? The EDA? Others?

The Advance should be te-named The Retreat. It has devolved into an echo chamber for a preening, fear-mongering gaggle of Luddites.

You're not even responding to the substance of the article. Why don't you share your brilliant argument in favor of data centers and homophobic public officials?

Free Thinker's avatar

There have been many compelling arguments made in the public domain for data centers (computers). Try to ignore the hypocrisy while using the Internet to do some research on data center benefits. And while I am not in support of homophobia, neither am I in support of Techno-phobia.

Maggie Watkins Johnson's avatar

Would you care to cite a few of those compelling arguments?

Also, I'm not sure why you're putting "computers" in parentheses next to "data centers". These are two very different things.
