Fredericksburg City Council has cancelled Tuesday’s work session and regular meeting due to winter weather and instead will consider the appointment of a representative to the vacant Ward 3 seat at a special session on Thursday.
“The purpose of the [special session] meeting is to certify the February 4, 2025, closed meeting consistent with Virginia Code Section 2.2-3712 and consider and take action to fill the interim vacancy of the Ward 3 Council seat consistent with Section 7 of the City Charter, which are time sensitive matters,” according to the agenda for the 2 p.m. meeting.
The agenda has only two items—certification of the February 4 closed session and nomination and appointment of a Ward 3 councilor—and no time for public comment.
Following nomination and appointment, the new councilor will take the oath of office, according to the agenda.
The rest of the items that were on the agenda for the cancelled February 11 meeting have been rescheduled to February 25, the next regular meeting.
